Longs is a small unincorporated community in Horry County, located some 14 miles northwest of North Myrtle Beach at the intersection of Hwy. 9 and Hwy 905.
Longs appears on a 1682 map of "Rivers, harbors, plantations, and other accommodations" in North and South Carolina, published in "A New Map of the Country of Carolina." by Joseph Gascoyne. It became mostly known when the Long family, whose descendants still live in South Carolina and Virginia, began the construction of many public buildings and works including the Baptist Church. The family moved into the construction and masonry industries with corporations such as JD Long Masonry and Long Enterprises stretching far along the east coast of the US.
Today Longs is fast growing into a suburb of the Grand Strand. Its public park, which includes a baseball field and a small playground, is often utilized by the community for parties, family reunions, and other get-togethers. Longs also has two strip plazas that contain multiple restaurants and various stores.
